Hiring Lifeguards

Lifeguard Duties and Responsibilities
- Follow the Red Cross guidelines to lifeguarding.
- Monitor activities at the pool to prevent accidents.
- Rescues patrons in danger of drowning.
- Administers First Aid when necessary.
- Inspects the pool for cleanliness, completes general pool cleaning and maintenance.
- Cautions patrons of unsafe practices and enforce pool rules and regulations.
- Maintains order in the pool and adjoining areas.
- Responsible for the availability and safekeeping of emergency equipment. Wear appropriate clothing (females-one piece suit, males-shorts suitable for swimming & a tee-shirt).
- Provide general information to patrons on pool operation.
- Completes required paperwork.
- Take new training courses if necessary.
- Does not get distracted while on duty.
Lifeguard Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of rules and regulations concerning the conduct of the public pool. (attached)
- Knowledge of lifesaving procedures, including first aid and standard resuscitation measures.
- Skilled in the application of lifesaving techniques.
- Skilled in swimming.
- Ability to act quickly and calmly in emergencies.
- Ability to perform rescue actions, administer first aid and CPR.
- Follow the NLSI protocol for thunder and lightning storms.
Lifeguard Qualifications
- Must possess current Lifeguard, Community First Aid and CPR certificates, which are to be filed in the Borough office and a copy at the swimming pool.
- You will be reimbursed for training, after you complete your commitment of two summers of employment.
